The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is excited to announce that Adult Battle of the Books returns in 2026. This year’s preliminary rounds will take place at CLP-Beechview\, CLP-Squirrel Hill\, CLP-East Liberty\, and CLP-Lawrenceville\, giving teams across the city a chance to compete. The top two teams from each preliminary round will then advance to the Championship Battle hosted at an exciting new venue\, Hazelwood Brew House! \nWhat you need to know: \n\nYour team captain will sign up to be one of eight teams to compete at one of our four CLP locations in June.\nIf you are the first or second place winner at one of the CLP locations\, you will be invited to compete in the Championship Battle on Thursday\, September 24 at Hazelwood Brew House\n\nGet your team captain to sign up for a night of competitive book trivia at CLP–Squirrel Hill on Thursday\, June 11 from 5:30 PM to 8 PM. If this location and date does not work for you\, we will also host preliminary battles at: \n\nCLP-Beechview on Tuesday\, June 9 from 5:30-8:00 PM – REGISTER HERE\nCLP-East Liberty on Tuesday\, June 16 from 5:30-8:00 PM – REGISTER HERE\nCLP-Lawrenceville on Thursday\, June 18 from 5:30-8:00 PM – REGISTER HERE\n\nThe event will begin at 5:30 PM with the game starting at 6 PM sharp. He lives with a Pennsylvania Amish family; accompanies blind gay men on a Mexican cruise; plays jazz with Sun Ra\, the Afrofuturist who claimed to hail from Saturn; and pursues a clarifying love affair in Brazil. Collectively\, these essays recount Lowenthal’s many journeys of dislocation and relocation: to foreign countries and subcultures and to the riskiest shores of family and self. \nMichael Lowenthal is the author of the novels The Same Embrace\, Avoidance\, Charity Girl\, and The Paternity Test and of the short story collection Sex with Strangers. His writing has appeared in Tin House\, Ploughshares\, The New York Times Magazine\, The Boston Globe\, The Washington Post\, Out\, and many other publications. DESCRIPTION:Scan your old photographs\, documents\, slides\, and more for free at Community Scan Day! Staff will teach you how to use a portable scanner to digitize your items at CLP locations. If you’d like to donate digital copies to the CLP Digital Community Collection\, a staff member will walk you through the donation process. \nAppointments are 40 minutes long\, with a limit of 10 items. You must bring your own storage for your scans\, such as a flash drive or portable hard drive. \nAcceptable items (no larger than 8.5” x 11.7”) include: \nPrint photographs\nHand-written and typed documents\nNegatives and slides \nBook your time slot with this link.
