The Vivian Davidson Hewitt Initiative is excited to host the 2026 Artist-in-Residence Workshops, a dynamic series of community workshops across five Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh locations. Participants of all ages are invited to engage in hands-on creative exploration, share stories and contribute to a collective artistic experience.

CLP – South Side Artist-in-Residence Workshops with Ash Strazzinski

  • Book Binding with Unique Materials 1

Saturday, May 23 from 1:00-4:00 pm

  • Book Binding with Unique Materials 2

Saturday, May 30 from 1:00-4:00 pm

Join Ash Strazzinski at CLP-South Side for hands-on book making workshops. Participants will create a one-of-a-kind book by binding unique materials. The books can then be used as the artist sees fit: a sketchbook, a journal, a photo album or simply a bound collection of materials and textures. There will be a variety of supplies available to workshop participants to bind along with paper and collage materials from deaccessioned books.

The first hour of each session will be reserved for discussion, exploration of materials and DIY book binding methods. The remaining three hours will be studio time where Ash will be available to assist with binding.

Attendance is not required for both sessions, however participants are welcome and encouraged to attend both sessions and open studio/work time.

All materials will be provided.

Ash Strazzinski is a multimedia visual artist who is deeply invested in playtime; wildly curious about bodies, mystified by femininity and masculinity, and confused about gender. She makes images, objects, installations, and one-of-a-kind artist books that instigate questions about our presentation of self, language and communication, and our relationships with images, objects and materials.
