An anthotype is a photographic print made by placing objects on a surface treated with a photosensitive solution made from plants (in this case, turmeric) and exposed to sunlight. The prints are bright yellow when first made, then turn to a brownish red once set with a solution of baking soda and water. Discovered in 1839, this process can be used to reproduce transparent images, make botanical prints, and more. In this program, we will learn about the history of the anthotype while creating prints and photosensitive solution to take home. All necessary supplies will be provided. Note that turmeric can stain, so please wear appropriate clothing. This program takes place in the 3rd floor conference room.
