The cyanotype is a photographic print made by placing objects on a surface treated with a photosensitive solution that changes to a deep Prussian blue hue when exposed to sunlight. Invented in 1842, this process can be used to reproduce negatives, make botanical prints, and more.

In this program, we will learn about the history of the cyanotype—and the chemical reactions that make these prints possible—while creating our own cyanotype prints to take home. All necessary supplies will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring photographic negatives or other small objects to use in their prints (be aware that negatives will be reproduced at actual size).
