Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is committed to honoring diverse cultures and heritages all year round.

A Year of CAIR Months

In recognition of each month, CLP will celebrate different identities across our locations and online through programs, outreach, resources and opportunities for collaboration. Together, we can all engage in dialogue and grow our understanding of the issues that currently affect our communities.

We invite you to join us for the following monthly celebrations!

  • Black History – February
  • Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage – May
  • Pride – June
  • Disability Pride – July
  • Hispanic and Latin Heritage Month – September 15 through October 15

The Library will add an additional celebration each calendar year. We are looking forward to adding Native American/Indigenous Peoples Month in November 2026 and Arab American Heritage Month in April 2027.

Hispanic & Latin Heritage Month

What began as a week-long celebration in 1968 has become the nationally recognized celebration we know as Hispanic Heritage Month. Over its 50 years, Hispanic Heritage Month has faced challenges regarding its name, including proposals to change the month to Latino or Latina Heritage Month.
